Initiative: Production Control and Operational Campus Payroll, with the support of UC Payroll customers, are automating the Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) payroll batch system using the Zeke batch automation tool. Sections of the UC Payroll batch cycle already have been successfully automated.
Benefits: Automation will allow all customers to dovetail into the IR&C Disaster Recovery plan. It will eliminate the potential for human error when someone forgets to run a job. It will free up staff time to do other work.
Description of Automation: Before automated tools were available, people manually submitted jobs to run. If the job had to run in the middle of the night, someone would have to be available to run that job. Automated tools schedule and run jobs by keeping track of the days of the week, the 24 hour clock, and the months of the year. Zeke is a mainframe (IBM) and open system (UNIX) product that automates the running of batch jobs or established process. Zeke works with all batch jobs or processes that run on a regular or semi regular cycle, and can be programmed to have all the information necessary to run the job:
