I am happy to announce that this fall IR&C will offer SharePoint to UCOP departments. SharePoint is considered an essential business tool by many corporations and universities. It provides a secure, shared, Web-based repository for documents and other information, access control, and work flow management. It integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft Office products.
Currently, we’re working with several departments to pilot SharePoint at UCOP. Our goal is to provide a robust SharePoint service as soon as possible, which we anticipate will be September. A basic SharePoint offering will include the ability to store documents, control versions, and manage work flow on a limited basis. This basic level of service will be offered free of charge. More complex implementations will involve a fee, depending on business requirements.
Next month, we’ll distribute a progress update with more details about the coming SharePoint service, including information on requesting SharePoint sites, defining your business requirements, where to get training, and the need for local departmental support.
If you have any questions or concerns, please submit them to the SharePoint Service account at sharepoint@ucop.edu. Stay tuned for more information!
