Tablet

Availability: UCOP

Service Description
ITS supports UCOP owned tablets, and also allows personally owned tablets to connect to UCOP email, calendar, and contacts for business purposes.

UCOP personnel must not use or store University restricted information on personally owned mobile devices. If you receive restricted information on a personally owned device, delete it immediately. UC policy, IS-3, Electronic Information Security, provides a definition of restricted information. Examples include Social Security numbers, ethnicity, date of birth, and financial information, such as credit card number or bank account number.

UCOP owned tablets
When requested and authorized by departments, ITS provides a tablet (and optional data plan when needed) to qualified UCOP personnel and configures the tablet to receive UCOP email, calendar, and contacts.

  • Available models. Typically, at least two standard tablet models are offered. Individuals may not pay the difference in price in order to receive a premium model. Departments may request that returned tablets be redeployed in lieu of purchasing new tablets.
  • Security. ITS electronically enforces tablet security configuration requirements on devices with access to UCOP email, calendar, and contacts. The requirements are a screen-lock passcode, encryption, remote wipe in the case of loss or theft, and automatic wipe when ten consecutive invalid passcodes are entered.
  • Hardware support. ITS provides very limited support for hardware. Customers are referred to the manufacturer or carrier for further assistance.
  • Replacement. Replacement tablets may be provided if the device has been lost, stolen, or is not working correctly. Properly functioning tablets will not be replaced if they have been in service less than 24 months, are still under warranty, or are within the initial terms of an optional data plan.
  • Return. UCOP owned tablets must be returned promptly to ITS when the business need for the device has concluded or the individual separates from UCOP. Returned tablets are wiped and are redeployed when possible.
  • Transfer of liability. Ownership of a UCOP owned tablet may not be transferred to an individual.

Personally owned tablets
