OPnet Upgrade on March 1 for Secure Wireless Access
February 26, 2014
To: UCOP Community
From: IT Service Desk
On Saturday, March 1, 8:00 a.m. through Sunday, March 2, 8:00 a.m., ITS will upgrade the UCOP wireless network, OPnet, to provide strong encryption and authentication. During that timeframe, wireless services will not be available.
After the upgrade, you will be able to use OPnet to securely access file shares, printers, and other services that previously were only accessible via a cable connection to the wired network.
OPnet is the default wireless connection for UCOP personnel and provides broad coverage, allowing convenient email access in hallways, cubes, offices, and conference rooms. To connect to Opnet,
- Go to your wireless connections menu and select OPnet.
- At the prompt, provide your regular UCOP log-in, password and, for iPhones and iPads, the domain. The “domain” is ad\ as in ad\jsmith.
- If prompted, accept the certificate.
More information about the UCOP wireless networks is available in the ITS service catalog.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the IT Service Desk or by phone at (510) 987-0457.
