Records are an important resource that must be appropriately managed, no matter what form the records take. Information in all media must be readily available, understandable and useable to support decision-making, programs, and clarify obligations, as well as protect rights and privileges. When the records retention period has lapsed, the records need to be disposed of in such a manner that is appropriate based on the content of the records.
Per University policy, RMP-1, "University Records Management Program," All university employees who handle administrative records are responsible for knowing and following laws and university policies and guidelines that govern those records.
Managing records may seem overwhelming, but everyone at the University has a responsibility to properly create, maintain, and dispose of their records. We hope we can help by providing advice, such as tip sheets, guidance and other resources.
