A University employee who is released by his or her treating physician to return to work on a part-time basis may receive Temporary Partial Disability (TPD) payments from Sedgwick CMS in addition to the part-time wages earned by the employee in the department. The State Law provides that an employee is eligible for TPD payments whenever the employee earns less than $735 per week in part-time wages. In addition, if the employee elects either Option 2 or Option 3, the University supplements the employee's part-time earnings and Sedgwick CMS TPD payment (if any) to 100% of basic salary plus shift differential for as long as the employee has accrued sick leave. After the employee's accrued sick leave is exhausted, the University supplements the Sedgwick CMS TPD payment and the employee's part-time earnings to 80% of basic salary plus shift differential for the balance of the employee's twenty-six (26) weeks of Extended Sick Leave eligibility, if any. If the employee elects Option 1, the employee is not eligible for the University supplement.
| 100% of Employee's bi-weekly basic salary plus shift differential | $ 1200 |
| Less: Employee Part-time earnings (assume 50% time) | - 600 |
| Less: Sedgwick CMS TPD Payment * | - 400 |
| 100% University Supplement Payment | $ 200 |
| 100% of Employee's bi-weekly basic salary plus shift differential | $ 2400 |
| Less: Employee Part-time earnings (assume 50% time) | - 1200 |
| Less: Sedgwick CMS TPD Payment * | - 800 |
| 100% University Supplement Payment | $ 400 |
Supplementing at 80%
The procedure is the same as above except that the University's supplement is based on only 80% of the employee's basic salary plus shift differential.
In many cases, the combination of the Sedgwick CMS TPD payments and the employee's part-time earnings will exceed 80% of the employee's base pay plus shift differential. In these cases there will be no University supplement. In some cases, however, part-time earnings may be sufficiently low to qualify for the University Supplement.
EXAMPLE C - 80% Calculations on a Bi-Weekly Basis
Assume bi-weekly base pay of $1,200.
The amount of the University supplement payment is calculated:
| 80% of Employee's bi-weekly basic salary plus shift differential | $ 960.00 |
| Less: Employee Part-time earnings (assume 1/3 time) | - 400.00 |
| Less: Sedgwick CMS TPD Payment * | - 266.66 |
| 80% University Supplement Payment | $ 293.34 |
*The Sedgwick CMS payment is 2/3 of the weekly wage loss, subject to a maximum level of earnings of $735 per week. The Sedgwick CMS bi-weekly payment is therefore: 2 X (2/3 X ($600 - $400)) = $266.66.
EXAMPLE D - 80% Calculations on a Monthly Basis
Assume monthly base pay of $2,400.
The amount of the University supplement payment is calculated:
| 80% of Employee's bi-weekly basic salary plus shift differential | $ 1920.00 |
| Less: Employee Part-time earnings (assume 1/3 time) | - 800.00 |
| Less: Sedgwick CMS TPD Payment * | - 533.33 |
| 80% University Supplement Payment | $ 586.67 |
*The amount of the Sedgwick CMS TPD payment may vary because benefits are paid based upon a seven (7) day week.
