Will OP continue to offer training classes?
As long as there is a demonstrated need for training classes, UCOP HR will offer them. The August schedule of classes is now posted at the following website. (8/08)
During one of the first All Hands Meetings on the OP restructure, it was indicated that a list of CalPERS agencies would be distributed. Can someone send this out with the specific agency employment websites and phone numbers and contact names if possible?
The number of CalPERS agencies is so large that creation of such a list is not possible to create. A list of the CalPERS agencies is available in the CalPERS annual report. The listing begins on page 150. (8/08)
Will the change management classes be repeated?
No additional change management classes are currently planned. (8/08)
CATS is the electronic application for posting and applying for jobs at Office of the President. There are two ways to use CATS:
- You can search the posted jobs and apply for any that interest you by completing a series of screens. Once you have completed the application, the information is saved for use when applying for additional jobs. Select the "Search Positions" link in the left column of the home page to begin. One tip for finding all available positions is to navigate to the "Search Positions" form, then click on "Search" without entering any criteria into the fields. This technique will ensure that you find all open positions, even if you don't know the exact title. When the search function returns the list of open positions, you can sort by location by clicking on the arrow next to "Location".
- You can create an application prior to applying for a specific job. On the CATS home page, select “Create Application” from the links on the left and follow the directions on the screen.
It's a good idea to have your updated resume prepared before you apply for a position. You will be instructed, when applying for a position, whether you are able to submit a resume.
A document with tips for searching and applying for jobs on CATS is available on the website. An in-depth tutorial is also available. (8/08)
Has there been any consideration of the particular needs of new employees in the restructuring?
All UCOP employees, including new employees are encouraged to take advantage of the career development resources being offered by OP HR, as well as all of the resources on the HRB restructuring website, including the comment form. We understand that new employees may not have an established relationship with coworkers and supervisors or extensive knowledge of the paths for accessing information, which take time on the job to develop; however, we encourage all employees to voice their questions and concerns to their supervisors.(5/08)
What is your advice for people who are considering applying for jobs at UC campuses, but who would prefer to stay at OP?
Each person should consider her or his own career and do what is best for them individually. While we don't know exactly what will happen at OP, a portion of what we currently do now will be retained after the restructuring of the department. HRB employees also need to consider that the State budget could affect the campuses as well as OP. (5/08)
Are there going to be more skills training classes offered?
OP Human Resources will continue to offer change management classes and skill-building workshops. You can find updated schedules online. (5/08)
Can HR do more to support those who have to apply for their own jobs?
The process for filling the positions in HRB's new organizational design will be developed by the Implementation Team. In some cases, units may be redefined or consolidated, and job duties in those units may change. In those situations, employees may have to apply for the new positions so that we may ensure a fair and equitable process. In addition to attending the ongoing workshops being offered through UCOP HR, employees can contact UCOP Employee Assistance Program Coordinator Jude Sharp at 7-0839 for personal assistance. (5/08)
Would you consider a job fair for local campuses to come to OP?
Career development events are being coordinated by OP HR. You can find the calendar of events online. While a job fair for local campuses has not yet been planned, applicant workshops with representatives from the campuses are ongoing. (5/08)
Could you have some workshops at Kaiser?
Workshops are scheduled according to available space. There are currently a number of workshops scheduled for the Kaiser building. (5/08)
What help is available to me if my job is impacted or if I want to be thinking about a transition?
