I first want to thank everyone for all their hard work and contributions last year, and also for participating in the All Hands Meeting in December where we talked about the HRB redesign. I thought our discussions were candid and productive, and I appreciate everyone's understanding of the difficult circumstances we face, and your commitment to working together to navigate them.

2008 promises to be another busy year for us and I want to be sure we stay in communication with each other. To that end, we are developing several new communications mechanisms that I want to share with you:

  • HRB Redesign website:  We've created a dedicated website to help keep everyone apprised of the status of the HRB redesign initiatives we discussed in December. The site has a place for you to send feedback and ask questions.
  • Informal Q&A sessions:  We're in the process of scheduling departmental brown-bag Q&A sessions to provide HRB staff with a forum for raising questions and sharing views directly with Operating team members. Information about these meetings will be forthcoming.
  • Regular updates:  As I mentioned at our meetings in December, I am committed to sharing information with you as quickly as possible so you can expect regular updates from me. We'll also continue to discuss HRB redesign at our regularly scheduled all-hands meetings, and I do hope that you'll continue to share your questions and concerns with me when we meet.

Clearly, there is a tremendous amount going on here at UCOP, and we want to make every effort to keep everyone informed about what is happening, not only within HRB but also for UCOP and the University generally. Along these lines, I hope everyone in the department has read Provost Hume's latest communication to the UCOP community, which discusses our restructuring efforts, which now take on heightened importance in light of the proposed cuts to the state budget the governor has announced.

That's it for now. Thank you again for your dedication and partnership, and I'll be in touch again soon.
