About Systemwide Retirement Programs and Services
The Actuarial Services Group coordinates the actuarial-related processes for the University’s retirement benefit programs, including the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) and its segments, the 415(m) Restoration Plan, the PERS Plus 5 Plan and the Retiree Health Benefit Program. The team is responsible for actuarial-related policy, research, and related operational projects, as well as providing support to the collective bargaining process in regard to these programs.
Members serve as consultants and subject matter experts to stakeholders across the University, including staff, leadership, faculty, and the Department of Energy. Our goal, as part of the HR Strategic Plan, is to ensure that the University’s retirement benefit programs remain compliant, competitive and financially sustainable.
The Pension & Retirement Programs unit is responsible for research, policy development, benefit design and costing, and support for fiduciary oversight for the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) and the Retirement Savings Program (RSP) plans: the Defined Contribution Plan, the Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan, and the 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. Responsibilities also include the periodic updating of UCRP and RSP plan documents.
Members provide staff support for the University of California Retirement System Advisory Board and serve as consultants and subject matter experts to Academic Senate, staff, and retiree committees; senior management; unions; and location HR professionals. Our goal, as part of the HR Strategic Plan, is to ensure that UC post-employment benefits remain competitive as well as financially sustainable.
