Halie Kampman

GFI Fellow - Class of 2018

Graduate student, environmental studies
UC Santa Cruz

DESCRIPTION

Halie does her Ph.D. research in The Gambia, where she contributes to a project of the NGO United Purpose, aimed at reducing undernutrition through promoting high-nutrient crops in women’s community gardens. She will be working with women’s community gardens across five regions, to promote high-nutrient indigenous African leafy vegetables and high-nutrient orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (high in vitamin A, as compared to the white-fleshed alternative). Halie’s research also aims to explore the factors that motivate consumption decisions at the household level. By doing so she will contribute to a better understanding of how nutritional benefits may be harnessed from women's community gardens.
