PROJECT

Nutrition Policy

DESCRIPTION

Gemma will work closely with Lorrene Ritchie and Suzanna Martinez at ANR’s Nutrition Policy Institute and obtain knowledge and hands-on experience working in several areas of nutrition policy. One, the fellow will help to evaluate interventions and programs underway on UC campuses to increase understanding of some of the best practices for reducing food insecurity and to inform policies focused on reducing and eliminating food insecurity among college students. Second, the fellow will help to analyze data on the foods provided to young children in early care and education settings to help inform policies related to healthful eating in this age group. These research efforts will help to inform California food policy in two vulnerable populations that are at risk for poor nutrition, food insecurity and obesity: young children in early care and education and young adults in post-secondary education settings.
