Project

UC Cooperative Extension

Description

He will lead a group of graduate students who will organize seminars and workshops for students interested in Cooperative Extension careers. The goal is to improve graduate student preparedness for extension, outreach and applied research.

More specifically, he will coordinate five workshops throughout the school year, many of which will be open to the campus community and will introduce people to Cooperative Extension. Potential workshops include:

  • How to write policy briefs
  • Public speaking with the community
  • Impact evaluation
  • Advocacy, marketing and outreach
  • Social media/technology
  • Data visualization for public or scientific consumption
  • How to deal with controversial issues
  • Mapping for communication and education

He also will coordinate the annual Cooperative Extension showcase with revisions from last year’s forum. This showcase aims to match prospective Graduate Students in Extension with mentors and share Cooperative Extension work with the campus community. He and his cohort will update the format of the showcase to make it more interactive and allow participants to spend more time learning about work within their own disciplines.
