Project

Endophytes and Sustainable Agriculture

Description

I am sequencing the genomes of beneficial plant bacteria to determine how they are helping plants grow and develop properly and how they could be applied to sustainable agriculture and forestry practices.

Goals

To grow and characterize beneficial plant symbionts called bacterial endophytes.

Future plans

I will be analyzing the genomes I sequenced and determining the genes involved in beneficial processes. I am hoping to graduate in July and go on to a job working with pine genetics with the USDA, so I can understand more about how the pine genetics play a role in what kind of beneficial bacterial endophytes it hosts.
