Katina Ancar

Senior Counsel

Katina Ancar joined the Office of the General Counsel in January 2009. Ms. Ancar practices in a variety of areas, including systemwide and campus-based tuition and fees, student accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, student discipline and grievances, housing, free speech rights and religious accommodations, and Federal Communications Commission matters for the University’s television and radio stations. She acts both as primary counsel for the University’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources and as associate campus counsel for the Davis campus. She has also served as associate campus counsel for the Santa Cruz campus.

Before joining the office, Ms. Ancar practiced civil litigation with a focus on insurance coverage at the law firm of Farella Braun + Martel. She spent several years with the National Center for Youth Law as a Skadden Fellow and staff attorney with an emphasis on civil rights class action litigation. Ms. Ancar also served as a judicial law clerk to Judge Susan Illston of the United States District Court in San Francisco. She earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her law degree from Harvard Law School, where she was an Officer and an Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
