Hotel Accommodations for the Northern Forum on November 6, 2009

The hotel for the Forum is the newly renovated Santa Cruz Dream Inn, at 175 West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz, CA  95060.  The location overlooks the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (the oldest beachfront amusement park on the West Coast), is within walking distance of historic downtown Santa Cruz, and is only 3 miles from the performing arts complex on the UC Santa Cruz campus.  Both the hotel and the campus are 35 miles from the closest major airport, San Jose International.  The Forum regrets that it is NOT able to provide shuttle service to and from San Jose International; however, there WILL be a free shuttle bus running from the Santa Cruz Dream Inn to the Santa Cruz campus on the day of the Forum.  The shuttle bus will make scheduled runs from the hotel to the campus at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 a.m. and from the campus back to the hotel at 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30 p.m.  A block of rooms has been reserved for Forum recruiters for $189 plus tax on the nights of November 5 through November 7.  To obtain the Forum's negotiated rate, you must call the hotel's direct line (831-426-4330) and specify that you are with the "California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education."  Alternatively, to book online, a personalized web site has been created for recruiters coming to UC Santa Cruz.  No password is required. Note: Reservations must be made on or before October 4, 2009, to obtain the Forum's special rate.

Cal Predoc Reception
On Friday night, November 6, 2009, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., the Forum will host a dinner reception for all registered recruiters and for the Sally Casanova California Pre-Doctoral Scholars in attendance.  The reception will be held at the Santa Cruz Dream Inn.

Directions to the Hotel
From the South
Coming in on Hwy 5, exit on Hwy 46 West.
Take 46 West to Hwy 101 North at Paso Robles.
Take 101 North to 183 West in Salinas.
Take 183 West to Hwy 1 North. Hwy 1 North will bring you into Santa Cruz, becoming Mission Street.
Follow Mission Street to Bay Street and make a left turn onto Bay Street. Bay Street will end at West Cliff Drive, and you will see the hotel at that intersection.

From San Francisco
Take Hwy 280 S towards SAN JOSE, to Hwy 85 South.
This will take you to Hwy 17 South, which will take you to Santa Cruz.
Take the Hwy 1 North exit in Santa Cruz, which will put you onto Mission Street.
Make a left onto Bay Street and follow this to the end of the street, we are at 175 West Cliff Drive at the end of Bay Street.

 

Directions to UC Santa Cruz from Santa Cruz Dream Inn
From Hotel to Campus:
Turn right onto Bay Street and proceed up the hill to the main campus entrance. At the Main Entrance, turn right on Empire Grade, then turn right on Heller (the UCSC West Entrance). Go past four stop signs and parking will be available in the Core West Parking Structure on your right, located at the intersection of McLaughlin and Heller Drives.

 

Parking:
There will be traffic personnel on duty to direct you to the parking area within the Core West Parking Structure. The parking permit cost is $2.00 (cash only).
