Federal UC Facts

UC is California's Land Grant University.
UC's current operating budget is nearly $16 billion, with more than 27% coming from federal sources.
Two-thirds of all basic research at UC's campuses is funded by the federal government.
Federal programs provide nearly 60% of all financial aid for UC students. ($689 million in 2000-01)
UC is consistently one of the top five contractors of the federal government.
For FY01, 52% of UC's patient days were Medicaid (23%) and Medicare (29%). For each day, more than half of UC hospital beds are filled with Medicare and Medicaid patients.
Medicare and Medicaid provide more than 34% of UC Academic Medical Centers' net patient revenues.

UC is one of the largest safety net providers in California providing more than $225 million in charity care. (2000-01)
