Seismic Safety Policy

The general University Seismic Safety Policy is set forth in the University of California Facilities Manual, Volume 1, Chapter 5, Seismic Safety Policy. The Real Estate Services Group (RESG) developed the University of California Seismic Safety Policy for leased and purchased buildings to apply the general policy to purchases and leases of off-campus facilities. The most recent update to the UC's Seismic Safety Policy was sent to the Chancellors, Director – LBNL, and Chief Executive Officers – Medical Centers on 8/26/2011 (pdf). This Policy replaces the Policy on Seismic Safety - 1/17/1995, the Seismic Safety Policy for Leased and Purchased Buildings - 6/29/2007. To ensure that seismic safety and other structural considerations are fully incorporated into purchase and lease decisions, the University has adopted a unified policy on the subject.
