Steve Garber is the Administrative Manager for Educational Technology Services (ETS) at UC Berkeley, where he is responsible for the department's budget, financial and HR management. He has been with ETS since April 2012. Steve began his career at UC Berkeley in 2001 as the Operations Manager of the Full-time MBA Admissions Office at the Haas School of Business, and subsequently took on a central campus role as Manager of Finance and Administration for the Office of Human Resources in October of 2005. He then joined the Chancellor's Office in April of 2008. In February of 2011 his department was moved to the Vice Chancellor - Administration and Finance Immediate Office.
Steve became active in the Berkeley Staff Assembly (BSA) in 2004 while participating in the initial pilot of BSA's Staff Mentorship Program as a mentee. He was then elected to the BSA Coordinating Committee and became a member of the Career Development Committee (CDC) and eventually its chair. Under his leadership the CDC issued its first Executive Report on the Mentorship Program, covering the first three cycles of the program, which is currently in its sixth cycle with over 40 matched pairs of mentors and mentees. Steve then went on to become a delegate to CUCSA.
Steve's background is in both biology and non-profit administration. Before arriving at UC Berkeley, he served in various administrative functions at a variety of non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. He received his Bachelor's degree from Brandeis University and his Master's degree in Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University. He spends his free time as an active singing member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus.
"I am very excited to be part of the great leadership team of CUCSA. I enjoy getting a broad perspective of the University that exists beyond my immediate work environment. I have a lot of energy and passion around many different staff issues, including talent management, career development and networking, and I enjoy bringing that energy to CUCSA as its Chair."
