The UC Latino Policy Institute (LPI), administered by CPRC since 1990, sponsors independent, nonpartisan faculty research on issues related to California's Latino population. LPI accomplishes this by:
LPI works closely with universitywide programs such as UC MEXUS and collaborates with researchers and organizations in other states and in Mexico.
Core funding for LPI is provided by the UC Committee on Latino Research (UCCLR), a systemwide faculty committee reporting to the UC Office of the President. UCCLR was created in response to California Senate Concurrent Resolution 43 (SCR 43, 1987), which requested the university to address key statewide policy issues facing the state's Latino population.
Advisory Board
A five-member Advisory Committee oversees LPI: two faculty who represent the UCCLR and three policy specialists who work in state government. Committee members are appointed on a two-year, renewable basis.

Each year, CPRC provides grants to UC Faculty interested in examining important state issues. Research findings are presented in policy briefings and publications distributed to state officials and policy analysts, scholars, journalists, the California congressional delegation, and other interested parties.
