UC Living Well for Students
In January 2006 Senator Tom Torlakson wrote UC encouraging the University to consider adopting a formalized wellness program for students. For the first year, Be Well UC was established with representatives from five campuses. In August 2007 Dean Yonie Harris (UCSB) agreed to chair the workgroup that was expanded to include Student Affairs representatives from all 10 campuses.
Using the Tier 2 and Tier 3 recommendations from the Student Mental Health Report as a take off point for the continued wellness work on campuses, the student-focused group began to collaborate with the UC Living Well workgroup. In 2006-07 UC Living Well began as a pilot program targeted at employee wellness efforts. In 2007 the program was expanded to all 10 campuses.
In 2008 the Be Well UC group joined the UC Living Well initiative with the goal of aligning all wellness programs, regardless of their target audience, under the umbrella of UC Living Well. For more information on current projects, please contact Maria Blandizzi.
