Sexual Assault Grant
In December 2006 Chancellor Vanderhoef, UC Davis, proposed a UC systemwide approach to reducing violence against women, specifically sexual assault. Student Affairs staff on each of the UC campuses successfully worked together under considerable time constraints to submit a grant application to the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.
On September 12, 2007 UC Davis, as lead campus for the UC System Project, was awarded a systemwide grant of $1 million for a three-year period from September 2007 till November. Our 10 campuses, working in collaboration with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, will utilize the grant funding to implement a collaborative, three-year, statewide initiative designed to reduce the incidences of sexual assault on our campuses and to produce model coordinated responses to campus violence issues.
In addition to the partnerships we will build upon with state agencies, a key component of the University of California systemwide flagship initiative involves working in partnership with groups, organizations and entities that play a role in helping address and prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking on our campuses. This includes the involvement of campus administration, law enforcement, judicial officers, women's and men's centers, student health and relevant student organizations.
