If you or your enrolled family member are not eligible for premium-free Medicare Part A, UC does not require you to enroll in Medicare Part B. Please note, however, that Medicare may charge a permanent 10% per year penalty for every year you delay Part B enrollment with certain exceptions, e.g., you and/or your spouse are working and have group health plan coverage based on that employment. If you aren't working, you may want to consider enrolling in Medicare Part B if you will qualify for premium-free Medicare Part A at any time in the future. NOTE: If you or your enrolled family member are turning age 65 and are not eligible for Part A, you must complete and return UC's Medicare Declaration form (UBEN 126) including documentation from Social Security attesting to your ineligibility. |
