The University has implemented the Staff and Academic Reduction in Time (START) program -- a voluntary program in which eligible employees may, with the approval of their department, agree to reduce their working hours and corresponding pay. START participants who remain on pay status at least 50% of full-time during each month on START continue to accrue vacation and sick leave and UC Retirement Plan service credit at the pre-start accrual rate, and will not be subject to any mandatory salary reduction plan during START participation, should such a plan become necessary.
