The President recently authorized implementation of the SMG Performance Management policy as approved by the Regents.
SMG Coordinators will be responsible for local coordination of the SMG performance management process in consultation with the Executive Compensation and Performance Management Group and Office of the President.
In preparation for the 2008/2009 performance review cycle, it is recommended that SMG members take this opportunity to ensure that their goals and objectives for the remainder of 2009 are in alignment with the updated SMG Performance Management Policy since performance for 2008/2009 will be assessed using this policy. This will also assist in the construction of goals and objectives for the 09/10 review cycle which should be part of the final performance review.
Goals and objectives should be in alignment with those key senior leaders and should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely. Metrics should be used wherever possible to assess performance. Metrics should be quantifiable and objective.
The 2008/2009 review cycle will follow the same timeline as previous years with the final performance review being based upon performance from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. Ratings should be input into SLIS by each location no later that September 1, 2009.
At this time, there are no plans for UCOP to collect individual performance reviews for SMG members at the locations. The President however, reserves the right to request a copy of a completed performance review at any time. Locations are responsible for ensuring that performance reviews are completed and finalized no later than August 31, 2009.
