In most cases, your benefits end on the last day of the last month for which you have  paid premiums.  In some cases you may convert coverage to individual plans.  See the links below for information about specific insurance coverages.

Medical, Dental, Vision
When you leave UC employment, your participation in UC-sponsored benefit plans usually stops. However, you may be able to continue some benefits for a limited time. If you are eligible and want to retire from UC, see the Retirement Handbook [PDF] and your Benefits Office for information about retiree benefits. If you terminate UC employment for medical reasons, see your Benefits Office immediately about your possible eligibility for disability, retirement, and/or other benefits.

Legal
If you leave UC employment, you may be able to purchase an individual policy on a direct-pay basis directly from ARAG. If you are retiring, you may continue participation in the legal plan as long as your monthly retirement benefit covers your monthly cost.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Dependent Care FSA ends when you go off pay status and may not be continued. You many continue participation in the Health FSA under COBRA.

Life Insurance
You can continue life insurance when you leave UC employemens. Your options depend upon the plan.

Disability
If you leave UC employment or retire, you are no longer eligible for the UC-sponsored Short-Term, Supplemental or UCRP Disability plans. Coverage ends on your last day actively at work.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Coverage ends on the last day of the last month for which you have an eligible appointment and premiums are paid. You may convert this coverage to an individual policy. You and/or your eligible family members have 31 days to apply for conversion. When you convert coverage, you pay premiums directly to the carrier. Please note that individual policies are generally more costly and provide fewer benefits.
