The Intercampus Academic Program Incentive Fund (IAPIF)
was established in 1994 as a three-year competitive grants program to
stimulate the development and implementation of strategies for intercampus
cooperation in the delivery of instruction at both the graduate and
undergraduate level. Over the three-year period from 1994 to 1997, 79
projects were funded. Faculty from a broad range of curricular areas
demonstrated various approaches to collaboration across campuses, offering
courses live or via distance learning formats, developing course materials
that could be shared, and forming regional consortia designed to coordinate
intercampus academic programs. Other forms of collaboration included
planning for intercampus degree programs and sharing faculty expertise
in the development of new programs. In demonstrating the feasibility
and benefits of sharing academic resources, the IAPIF- funded projects
revealed barriers to intercampus collaboration. Attention is now being
directed to the elimination of these roadblocks.
