Tools for Anatomy Instruction Using the World Wide Web: UCB, UCD, and UCSF. Faculty at UCB, UCD, and UCSF have worked together to develop two instructional tools for the World Wide Web. The first tool are sets of questions and answers related to photographs of anatomical dissections that have been used in previous anatomy exams at UCD and UCSF. This information enables students to evaluate their level of competency in anatomical dissections. The second tool involves clinical cases as problem-solving exercises to be imported into the World Wide Web providing for a friendly graphical user interface and enabling electronic consultation from any location. The database includes laboratory results, photography, MRI and CAT scans and other radiologic studies. IAPIF award for 1994-95: $2,900.

Development of Chemistry Curriculum Modules: UCB and UCSD. This project is part of a collaboration in chemistry curriculum reform involving faculty at UC, CSU, and CCC. The IAPIF supported UCB and UCSD faculty in developing curriculum modules for first year chemistry courses. A variety of Internet-based tutorials and assignments have been created to use airbags and solar energy as real-world models of basic chemical processes. Strategies are being developed for adapting material between the Internet and stand-alone applications. A database has been constructed to include images, 3-D models, animation, and videos created by faculty and multimedia staff. An evaluation will be conducted on the feasibility of using course-specific materials that reside on a variety of servers located at UC and other institutions. IAPIF award for 1994-95: $14,291.

Lead faculty: Barbara A. Sawrey, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, UCSD
