Systemwide Diversity Programs

Academic Career Development Program (ACDP) is designed to facilitate the academic career development of students who show potential to become excellent faculty or researchers in institutions of higher education as well as to foster multi-faceted diversity in graduate education at the University of California. ACDP consists of four program components: Graduate Outreach and Recruitment, two-year Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowships, Graduate Research Mentorship awards for continuing graduate students, and Dissertation-Year Fellowships.

Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) is a partnership between the ten campuses of the University of California and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The goal of this partnership is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who acquire doctoral degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and ultimately enter the professoriate.

Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnership (SAPEP) is a state-funded program that seeks to raise student achievement levels generally and to close achievement gaps between groups of students throughout the K-20 pipeline. UC's Graduate and Professional School SAPEP programs identify high-caliber, educationally and/or economically disadvantaged students and prepare them for careers as future academics, researchers, specialists, practitioners and/or leaders. These programs provide students with the skills and experience needed to be competitive for admission to graduate and professional schools.

Summer Research Programs provide undergraduates from UC or other colleges or universities with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience conducting research. Many of the programs provide additional enrichment opportunities, including preparation for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).

UC Leadership Excellence Through Advanced Degrees (UC LEADS) is a comprehensive two-year program designed to prepare economically or educationally disadvantaged UC undergraduates for success in doctoral degree programs in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Students are assigned individual faculty mentors, who guide them in academic year and summer research experiences. Scholars receive stipends and housing for their summer research and participate in extensive academic enrichment activities, including presenting their research at the annual UC LEADS Symposium.
