Jon Middleton, UCSD

A Brooklyn native, Jon Middleton began considering mathematics as a career during a National Science Foundation REU on elliptic curves at Miami University. While presenting his research at the 2005 AMS-MAA Joint Mathematics Meetings, he saw how relaxed and fulfilling the lifestyle can be. He cemented his decision a year later, following another REU at Tulane University on tire track geometry. In 2006, after receiving a B.S. in mathematics from SUNY Buffalo, he entered the Ph.D. program at the University of California, San Diego as a Cota-Robles Fellow. His interests presently include category theory, differential geometry and probability theory.
