CHANCELLORS
ACADEMIC COUNCIL CHAIR COWAN
Dear Colleagues:
Re: Revised Academic Personnel Policy 015, The Faculty Code of Conduct, and New
Academic Personnel Policy 016, University Policy on Faculty Conduct and the
Administration of Discipline
Attached for formal review are revised Academic Personnel Policy 015, The Faculty Code of Conduct,
and new Academic Personnel Policy 016, University Policy on Faculty Conduct and the Administration
of Discipline. These proposed policies will supersede current APM - 015 which now contains both the
Faculty Code of Conduct and the University Policy on Faculty Conduct and the Administration of
Discipline. To aid in your review, a clean copy of the new policies and a copy reflecting the
revisions are attached, along with a brief summary of major changes.
These changes have been developed jointly by the Academic Senate and the academic administration to
clarify procedures for the administration of faculty discipline. The current APM - 015 incorporates the
Faculty Code of Conduct within the University Policy on Faculty Conduct and the Administration of
Discipline. The proposal separates the two policies to clarify the contents. After formal review, the two
policies will require Regental approval.
This is a formal review of proposed personnel policy revisions, and employees should be afforded the
opportunity to review and comment on the proposals, which are available online at:
http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/apm/review.html. Also enclosed is a model communication that
can be used to inform non-exclusively represented employees affected by these proposed revisions.
Comments should be forwarded to Executive Director Sheila O'Rourke by June 11, 2001. If you have
any questions, please contact Sheila O'Rourke by telephone at (510) 987-9499 or by e-mail at:
